Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has issued a public statement after the promotional three-minute video uploaded late last month gained much criticism which made STB to take it down less than 2 weeks later. The video is ‘so bad it is good, and it was taken down by the Singapore Tourism Board from their YouTube channel once it went viral. However, copies have already been made and are being widely circulated and shared online, with many netizens making fun of it.
STB defended itself by saying that the video received a good response from the Philippine market, “When shared on STB’s Facebook page for the Philippines, the video attracted over 3,400 likes in the first week and garnered some 900 comments, largely positive.” They also added that the video was produced in the Philippines by the national broadcaster ABS-CBN. The video campaign is about a couple goes to Singapore for a holiday and she has a surprise for him, she’s pregnant.
Full statement below from the Singapore Tourism Board executive director, communications and industry marketing, Oliver Chong:
We thank readers for their interest in how STB promotes Singapore overseas. This video was produced for the Philippines by Philippine network ABS-CBN, in an effort to customise content for this audience. When shared on STB’s Facebook page for the Philippines, the video attracted over 3,400 likes in the first week and garnered some 900 comments, largely positive. Nevertheless, we thank readers for their feedback on the video and acknowledge that some aspects of it could have been done better.
I see nothing wrong in this video. It never said that the cause of the pregnancy of the woman was made during their stay in singapore. The pregnancy of the woman was a surprise for his partner and I will assume that they are married. Plus the video did not focus on the two persons but on the beautiful scenery of singapore. I will say that they did a great job on making this promotional video and there’s nothing wrong with it. Peace 🙂
Nancy, what was wrong with the video was the unnatural dialogue, the bad direction, the bad writing, and the bad acting. Have you ever seen people point and gawk at things the way that couple did? But the real crime was the concept and storyboards. If you can’t see that, then as my father says, “There’s no accounting for taste.”
Si Nancy Binay ka ba? Kasi ang tanga mo.
So, what’s wrong? Did I miss something in the translation?
here’s my surprise for you – i’m pregnant!
here’s another surprise for you, you’re not the father.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
So, Singapore is just a place to have a sex and get pregnant for the Filipinos?
