3.) Greenland is more icy than green – Legend has it that exiled explorer Erik the Red gave Greenland its name to attract more settlers. However, the island nation is more ice than green. Out of the 2.1 million square kilometers of Greenland’s area, 1.7 million of which is covered by the Greenland ice sheet.
However, most of the towns are located in the ice-free areas. In the capital Nuuk, the average daily temperature varies from -8 to 7 degrees Celsius. Green fields are minimal in this Danish territory that its football association cannot attain membership to the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) due to its inability to establish regulation grass pitches.
