4.) The ironies between Alaska and Rhode Island – Among all states, Alaska has the widest land area. However, it is ranked last in terms of population density with 1.26 people per square mile. This roughly translates to a population of more than 735,000 people and close to half of this number resides in Anchorage which is the state’s largest city.
In contrast, Rhode Island has the smallest land area among all 50 states with 1,214 square miles. This means that over 400 Rhode Islands can fit inside Alaska’s area. However, the small state has a bigger population with over a million residents.
Perhaps Alaska’s location and climate can be the reasons for this irony. But with Alaska having the fourth-highest median household income among all states, more Americans might consider migrating here.
