20th Century Fox Animation and Reel FX Animation Studios present “The Book of Life” starring Channing Tatum, Zoë Saldana, Diego Luna, Christina Applegate, Ice Cube, Kate del Castillo and Ron Perlman. Produced by acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and directed by Jorge Gutierrez. Gutierrez who also wrote the screenplay with Doug Langdale.
An animated comedy with a unique visual style, “The Book of Life” is the journey of Manolo voiced by Diego Luna, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. Based on the Mexican Dia de Muertos holiday, the pair’s new animated adventure tells the story of a pair of friends, Manolo and town hero Joaquin (Channing Tatum), who both vie for the affections of the beautiful Maria (Zoë Saldana). For Manolo, alas, the path of true love has a venomous magical snake on it, and he’s sent spinning across three netherworlds in the hope of returning to reclaim his love.
Before choosing which path to follow, he embarks on an incredible adventure that spans three fantastical worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Rich with a fresh take on pop music favorites, “The Book of Life” encourages us to celebrate the past while looking forward to the future.
Also joining the cast are Cheech Marin, Hector Elizondo and legendary tenor Placido Domingo, plus Ana de la Reguera (Nacho Libre, Eastbound and Down), Eugenio Derbez (Instructions Not Included), comedian Gabriel Iglesias (Stand-up Revolution), radio personality Ricardo (“El Mandril”) Sanchez, and Danny Trejo (Machete). “The Book of Life” opens October 16 in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox.
