Last June 27, the Department of Education officially launched they’re new web app. The Library Locator Map, a modified version of Google Maps with layers to show libraries and library hubs available to students nationwide.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro FSC wants to ensure that the Filipino People specially the students would have easy access to books, and urged that the public should take part in fostering the love for reading by donating atleast one book per year. He also said that “Reading enriches the soul. Every child has a story bursting in his or her heart. The problem is, it’s never been written; it’s never published, because no one dares to listen,” and “Our libraries’ goal is to help every graduate to write his or her own story, a story that is welling up in his or his heart.”
DepEd has 9,855 registered public schools with libraries and around 9,000 are already mapped. Also there are 188 library hubs nationwide. The Department said it will help more students to gain access to physical books so that students in the future may write their own books.
