NEW YORK, CBSNewYork– A rescue dog at New York City shelter has adopted a black kitten along with puppies in her shelter.
The Maltese called Coco recently surprisingly gave birth to a family of puppies, but it quickly made room for an orphaned kitten named Roadhouse just after the poor kitten was brought to the Animal Haven pet shelter, at 251 Centre St. in SoHo.
The 3-week-old puppies together with Roadhouse have already formed a beautiful bond ever since the abandoned kitten came in, shelter workers said.
“It was literally as if we were just handing her another puppy, and Coco was happy to take her, this has never happened before,” says Animal Haven associate director Kendra Mara to 1010 WINS’ Al Jones.
It was then that most of Coco’s puppies are white, so the jet black kitten literally stand out. But obviously, she is definitely a part of the family right now.
“And I think she just knew that Roadhouse was a baby and needed to be cared for, and she just took her in,” Mara said in a statement.
However, for now, the animals will not be available for adoption for the next three weeks, the shelter said.
