Lyca Gairanod: From Humble Beginnings to Stardom

It was not an easy start for Lyca Gairanod, a nine-year-old girl who used to scavenge junk in her native Cavite. She was first known as one of the Singing Street Children which went viral on social-networking sites. Her video received a lot of good comments from the netizens, not just from the Philippines but also from abroad.

Upon her entry on the blind auditions of “The Voice PH Kids,” aside from her great voice, her story as a little girl, who used to scavenge to help her parents with their livelihood, has captured viewers’ hearts. Lyca as a kid, had a more challenging start in life – her father is a fisherman, and Lyca’s mom, Maria Nessel, helps by scavenging what she can from trash cans, sometimes with Lyca’s assistance.

As she fought through the Battle Rounds, Sing-Offs, and Live Semi-Finals, Lyca was dubbed the “little superstar” after she was likened by coach Lea to Nora Aunor. Lyca, a small kid with big dreams, became known for her heartfelt performances and humble background. Lyca also previously revealed that she would perform for her neighbors in exchange for cash or food.

Lyca impressed the coaches and the audience with her rendition of Regine Velasquez’ “Narito Ako” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” Saturday night (July 26), but what brought the house down was her version of “Basang Basa sa Ulan,” which she performed with band Aegis on Sunday (July 27), earning a standing ovation from coaches Lea Salonga, Bamboo, and the audience at Resorts World Manila.

  1. I love Lyca so much, they said “first impressions last”, and that start when she sing HALIK on blind audition, I rewind it for almost 50 times the following day after the show, and worst I start announcing and asking to vote the angel that was sent from our almighty father God, now I am her fan, and I love her so much,
