The Philippines should be the singing capital of the world. Agree? Lea Salonga, Banig, Charice Pempengco, Jed Madela, and so many Pinoy artists have made big names worldwide. This is in the music industry alone.
Yesterday, Koreaboo posted a video of a Pinay group singing their version of Frozen’s ‘Let It Go’ in an audition on Superstar K6 Korean show. The group’s name is MICA as taken from their initials Mylene, Irene, Celina and Almira. They are also known as the Gollayan/Cercado sisters in the Philippines. The video immediately went viral with 90, 698 likes and 93, 865 shares in just 2 days!
MICA became the Grand Champion of It’s Showtime talent search last 2012. Then, they spread their wings and voices and turned out to be the Senior Grand Champion Vocal Group of the World at the 17th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in the U.S.
According to KPop artist and Superstar K6 Judge, “I’m really impressed that you guys harmonized everything. Had everything on point, it really, really moved me. By far the most amazing rendition I’ve ever heard. Thank you so much.”
With this new wave of talent and vocal performance, everyone is guessing — Will MICA be the next to follow Charice’s footsteps in terms of World-class Pinoy performance? As they usually say, “May chance!”
Let’s continue to support and lift our own. It’s not everyday that we get to see Filipinos bring pride to the country.
