Star Magic, sometimes referred to as ABS-CBN Talent Center is the management and training division of ABS-CBN Corporation. It started with Freddie M. Garcia (former Executive Vice President and General Manager for ABS-CBN) and Johnny Manahan (then Program Director) agreeing to have a group of new stars exclusively for the network.
It’s main purpose is to support young talents in the Philippines through different training focusing in acting, physical enhancement, and personality development before being thrown into different ABS-CBN projects such as films, TV shows, commercials, and the likes.
The first project of the talent center was Ang TV. Most of the top actors and actresses today started in that 1990’s youth-oriented variety show, including Claudine Barretto, Gio Alvarez, Rica Peralejo, Jolina Magdangal, John and Camille Prats, Paolo Contis, Patrick Garcia, Kaye Abad, and Angelica Panganiban.
In 2004, the company officially changed its name from Talent Center to Star Magic. It was also the same year when Star Circle Quest, a reality-based talent search, was launched. The talents from the show were set to star in Going Bulilit and SCQ Reload. The next year, participants from Pinoy Dream Academy and Pinoy Big Brother were endorsed to the company. In 2006, Star Magic Presents was launched and has produced a number of talented and promising local celebs. Then, in 2012, Star Magic celebrated their 20th anniversary with the release of the movie Crazy Love which starred Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, Bea Alonzo, Gerald Anderson, John Lloyd Cruz, Kim Chiu, and many more.
Over the years, Star Magic continues to grow; it’s success, unstoppable. With rosters of new talents every year and reputation of old stars gaining, how does it maintain its achievements? Here are 4 reasons why Star Magic is still the prime management in producing the best and brightest stars in the country:
1. It provides workshops for young talented individuals.
Many wanted to enter show business but they don’t know where to start and how to get started. Star Magic provides opportunities through different workshops to assist people in developing their talents. These professional training includes acting, voice, dance, hosting and Tagalog/English workshop.
2. Its trainers are top rank industry practitioners.
The workshops are headed by Rahyan Carlos, a director of several commercials, teleplays, and films. He also teaches Acting & Scriptwriting Workshops for Film & Television in UP Diliman, UST, PUP, Miriam College, DLSU Dasmarinas Cavite and Assumption College. Amongst his works were Oscar (2004), La Funerario Toti (2005), Pamahiin (2006), Shake Rattle & Roll 8 (2006), Hide and Seek, etc. He recently took up acting workshop in Hollywood under the premiere acting coach, Ms. Ivana Chubbuck. He is the only accredited teacher in Asia to teach the Chubbuck Technique. Under him are the Introductory, Advanced and Masterclass Acting for both Public and Artists of Star Magic.
Carlos’ group is composed of Bodjie Pascua (Teens/Adults Acting Instructor), Lynette Concepcion (Kids Acting and Teens/Adults Instructor), Ma. Carla Martinez (Kids Acting Instructor), Edna Mae Landicho (Kids Acting Instructor), HB Benitez III (Kids Acting Instructor), and Phil Noble (Teens/Adults Acting Instructor). The voice instructors are Raymond Roldan, Julie Ane Reyes, Luningning San Jose, and Jeanelle Roldan. The dance workshop instructors are Hotlegs and Manoeuvres Ignite members. Instructors for hosting workshop are Vincent de Jesus, Issa Litton, and Boy Abunda. While the Tagalog and English speech class are headed by Sining Lumbera and Dennis Villacorta.
3. It takes very good care of its artists.
Many former actors and actresses have swayed away from their careers because they were not given the time to shine. They felt taken for granted. Star Magic makes sure that it only not sharpen your talents and skills but also open new windows for career expansion such as commercial endorsements, TV shows, movies, album launches, and more. The stars under their umbrella continue to gain reputation in the industry.
4. It offers advanced artist training and masterclass acting.
Star Magic assists its actors and actresses by providing advanced training and masterclass acting. This is to make sure that the artist won’t get stuck with what he/she already knows. The workshop pushes an individual to give and exert more effort in their acting career, making them the best in their craft.
