China – A sushi-lover, who was identified as Tain Liao, went to the doctor because of an upset stomach and itchy skin. To his horror, a full body x-ray uncovered what’s causing these problems: Tapeworms
Hundreds of tapeworms were found crawling inside Liao’s upper body, his organs and his legs. This led the doctors to think he contracted cysticercosis – a medical condition wherein the tapeworm eggs entered his bloodstream.
In an interview, the patient was quoted saying,
I’ve eaten shashimi nearly every day for years but never thought it could do this to me.
Doctors believe that this serious condition is hard to treat, and can be fatal if tapeworms reach the patient’s brain.
According to reports, Liao ate sashimi that has been contaminated with tapeworm eggs. The larvae of this disgusting parasite can be found in freshwater fish like salmon.
Studies show that this flat and ribbon-like worm can grow up to 30 feet long inside a person’s system, which can damage one’s muscle if left untreated.
Liao was treated at the Guangzhou No. 8 People’s Hospital in Guangdong Province, in eastern China. I bet he’s never gonna eat anymore sushi after this.
