Australia – Last week at the Doctors at Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne, George – a goldfish- was diagnosed with a life-threatening tumor. The owners of this little fish chose to have the tumor removed from their pet’s body.
The 10-year-old goldfish would have to undergo a 45-minute operation. But first, it had to be given general anesthetic. What veterinarian Dr. Tristan Rich did was let George swim in a bucket of water corded with anesthetic.
After the operation, they placed George in a bucket of normal water where he was given antibiotics and painkillers. Within minutes, the fish was swimming again, doing his thing, as if nothing happened.
Today, George has returned to its loving owners. Doctors say as long as the fish stays in good condition, he’ll likely live for another 20 years.
