An angry mob chops off the genitals of the man they caught trying to rape a girl in an alley in Ganganagar, India. The enraged citizens only had anger for the man, refusing to take pity on him.
The lynch mob ganged up on Suresh Kumar after a few locals heard the screams of a young girl he was attacking. Angry that the 40-year-old would dare touch a child and try to rape her, the mob beat him with sticks or used their hands to punch him.
Although he was already bleeding and fully naked from the attack, the mob continued to beat him. They dragged him to the butcher’s shop and held a public trial to see whether everyone would agree to the idea of castrating him for his crimes.
No one bothered to call the police. Instead, they all decided that Kumar deserves more punishment than the harsh beating they gave him. As one, the crowd agreed to castrate him, cutting off his genitals using a meat cleaver from the butcher’s shop.
Bleeding profusely from his wounds, they left him by the roadside to serve as warning to others who might be planning the deed in the future. Passersby who saw him lying on the ground did not offer help because they saw his genitals on the ground by his side; they knew he was lynch-mobbed for a sex-related crime.
The police later found him lying on the ground; they brought him to the hospital where he is now in critical condition. A police officer said the crowd shouldn’t have taken the law in their own hands. It was the job of the police to punish the criminal for his actions, so they would investigate the incident and might also jail those who participated in Kumar’s beating and castration.
With rape being a brutal crime that affects millions of women (and sometimes men) across the world, this lynch crowd had just given justice the way many of us wish rapist should be treated. The law should have teeth so that would-be criminals would think twice before committing a crime.
