Saudi Arabia – It has been a tradition that women who are about to marry are entitled to receive gifts, particularly pieces of gold jewelry as the wedding day approaches. This is considered as her dowry – a security for herself in unexpected future events. It’s not only the future husband’s and his family’s obligation to give her such gift, but also her family and other friends as well.
Recently, King Abdullah gave his daughter a toilet made completely from gold. Although there were no reports as to the price of the gift, it was deemed to be one of the ‘most extravagant and bizarre’ wedding gifts in history.
According to a report from India Today, the bride’s dress costs almost $3,000,000, all of which are made out of gold. The King’s family spent this much to give her that ‘Pyramid’ look.
With an estimated US$21 billion documentable wealth in 2011, based on Forbes account, King Abdullah is said to be one of the richest royals in the world. Not only that. He was considered as the most influential Muslim among 500 Muslims for the past four years.
As for the groom, he have over 11 wives and a father to more than 16 children.
However, with netizens finding hard to believe the validity of the story, a comment in Andhra Headlines says the article from India Today is fake. According to Ameenudeen Shahul, the photo of the bride was taken from a Morocco photoblog, while the picture of the golden toilet was from the 11th World Toilet Summit in China.
