Just in time for Halloween, ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda offered a segment entitled “Umagang Kilabot Presents: Dalaw”. It did not matter that the video was aired by the show on a bright, sunny morning, because the story was so creepy it continues to haunt my dreams…
In the story, college freshman Ivie Bolido encountered an ‘engkantong itim’ (black supernatural being) inside her dorm room. This black creature apparently fell in love with her. At first, he did not show himself but Ivie could feel a presence inside the room.
Later on, he began to manifest himself, both in her waking and sleeping hours. According to Ivie, there was even one instance when she dreamt that he was on top of her and holding her hand – does that mean the engkantong itim was an incubus?
There was also another instance when he took her to an old house and offered her a bag of gold. When she refused the gift and returned it to him, the gold turned to mud.
She tried with all her might to resist the supernatural being. Many times she would place salt around her room, to try warding him off, yet he continued to haunt her dreams. She also fervently prayed, yet he would also appear beside her while she is praying.
It was not clear why she did not seek help from paranormal experts or why she did not transfer to another dormitory (but then, the being might still be able to follow her there, anyway).
Because the continued dreams with the black creature bothered her a lot, she decided to speak with him. One night, she gained the courage to talk to the engkantong itim, saying, “Hindi ka tao, tao ako…puede naman tayo’ng maging magkaibigan na lang, di ba? (I am human, you are not…Can we just be friends?)
Ivie said that after she said those words, he disappeared. Never to bother her again.
