Last October 2, a lotto draw was held in search for the lucky winner of the P12 million jackpot prize. The combination numbers: 09-21-31-36-40-41.
Ecstatic, Antonio Failon Mendoza prepared to claim his fortune from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. But, to his surprise, his grandchild took the ticket and crumpled it.
In a radio interview with dzMM, the former OFW said,“Naagaw naman ng apo kong maliit na yun. Naagaw, nagusot. Ngayon sinuggest naman ng isang bayaw ko ay plantsahin lang kasi sensitive ng ngayon sa PCSO.”
Concerned the machine won’t be able to read it, his daughter iron out the ticket. Unfortunately, a big part of it got burned.
Trying his luck, Mendoza still presented the ticket at the PCSO office for verification. However, the management said they follow specific policies in claiming prizes. 1. It should be readable. 2. No ticket, no payment. These strict rules were imposed to discourage bogus claimants from crowding their office every month, says PCSO General Manager Ferdinand Roxas II.
The outlet in Barangay Dacanlao, Calaca, Batangas confirmed that a ticket with that winning combination was bought there.
Meanwhile, Roxas told the news that their Legal and Technical team is still finding solutions to this issue. He also stressed out that ticket buyers should take care of their tickets because they cannot claim the prize if the ticket is ‘altered, defaced, torn, damaged or has failed an of the validation tests of the PCSO.’
For Mendoza, Roxas said there’s still a one year period for the office to wait and see if other people will claim the prize with the valid ticket.
