A lot of video games are known for depicting various forms of gore, violence, war, and sexuality. Naturally, you expect these video games to be banned for these reasons, right?
Well, List 25 was able to compile a list of the top video games which were banned for the most STUPID reasons!
For example, #25 on the list is Far Cry 3 – banned from Indonesia because its supposedly portrayed life in the country as similar to living in hell. It does show plague and disease as possible main themes, so the authorities could be right on that point. Still, it could be over-acting on the Indonesia government’s part.
At #20 was Saints Row 4 – banned from Australia, not for its gory content and violence but because it featured a weapon called “alien anal probe”.
At #17 was Football Manager 2005 – banned from China because it featured Tibet as an independent country. Yes, despite this being a fictional world, the Chinese government would not allow it to happen.
Perhaps one of the stupidest reasons on the list was at #14 for Command and Conquer: Generals – banned in China because it portrayed the country in a negative light. That might be a valid excuse but gamers were confused because China was actually portrayed as the good guy and among the world’s superpowers in the game. This could be a case of wrong English to Chinese translation or the translators lied to the authorities because they actually “sucked” at the game.
Topping the list is EA Sports MMA – banned from Scandinavian countries because it marketed specific energy drinks, which was actually against the law.
