Floyd Mayweather Jr. has heard how his detractors are calling him gay, coward, chicken, turkey, etc. Well, apparently he does not mind the label because no matter how many times people call him a coward, he is still a ‘rich coward’. Thus, the label is not important to him!
In a report on Kicker Daily, Mayweather was quoted as saying he actually laughs at the reports of people calling him a coward. After all, he was able to retire his mother, give his father Floyd Mayweather Sr. a good position in his own company [Mayweather Promotions], and is able to provide his kids with the best education in the best schools.
He knows the flak he is getting from people who believe he is running away from Manny Pacquiao but enjoys being on the spotlight, saying that even those who hate him actually follow him on social media and comment/talk about him.
In his own mind, that still makes him a superstar – despite the negativity it actually brings to him.
Pacquiao is the One Running Away
If Mayweather is to be believed, he is not the one trying to duck a fight against Pacquiao but the latter’s camp who is trying to stall the impending fights.
As an example, he had earlier called on the Filipino champ for them to make the fight on May 2 next year but Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank protested the date, saying it was a sacred date best reserved for Mexican fighters.
Hit and Run Away?
Mayweather also boasted how he had mastered the craft of boxing and that his own fight style is “to hit and not get hit”, something that Pacquiao fans translated to “hit and run away”.
Despite the negative comments on his ‘boring’ fight style, Mayweather said he will not change it for Pacquiao if ever their fight will push through. He said he would rather retire rich, with no permanent damage than to go on a slugfest against Pacquiao.
