What if McDonalds stops selling food to overweight people? Would it help combat obesity and make people thinner or will they just find another fast food chain to hang out in?
I think the answer would be more complicated than that because aside from going out to enjoy another fast food chain, there is a high likelihood that people [in the US, anyway] will sue McDonalds for discrimination.
It is probably a good thing that the article was hoax, after all.
The Incredible Story
According to the Daily Buzz Live article, which is satirical/hoax by the way, McDonalds will stop selling food to overweight people starting January 1 of 2015.
To ensure they are accurate in determining which ones to reject and which ones to serve, customers are supposed to step on weighing scales while ordering their food.
Women weighing over 170 lbs and men weighing 245 lbs will have to leave the fast food chain because they will not be served. As for kids, the weight limits vary, depending on age and height, the article further claims.
The supposed reason for this rejection of overweight people is that America is suffering from a serious problem of obesity; with numbers doubling in the past decade. To keep its people healthy, ‘junk food’ like those served in McDonalds are supposed to be replaced with healthier options or avoided altogether.
The hoax article was quite believable because it quoted scientific data and offered reasonable weight limits.
So, the next time you read something off the web, make sure you get it from a reliable source or ask yourself whether the story is believable or not. After all, if McDonalds will reject overweight people from buying their food, they just might go bankrupt!
