One of the prestigious competitions everyone is looking forward to each year is the Binibining Pilipinas Beauty Pageant. A project of a non-stock, non-profit organization, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated (BPCI), it aims to produce the country’s best beauties as representatives for various international competitions.
However, the organization is now in question after news surfaced about Christine Ramos Balaguer being disqualified as a candidate for the 2015 competition. The BPCI did not release any reason for the disqualification but rumors about her disability, a modeling contract, and her leaked suggestive photos came out.
The beauty candidate’s fans were disappointed with the decision asking clarification for her elimination. So they created a Petition to Bring Back Christine Balaguer as Candidate online with the goal of helping reinstate Christine as an official candidate for Bb. Pilipinas 2015.
The petition page encourages everyone to support the cause because they strongly believe that being deaf is NOT a hindrance to pursue a career and dreams, adding that the BPCI should be fair by letting Christine return into the competition and perform her best.
Meanwhile, Martin Martin from Elite Model Management issued a press release about the disqualification:
He also clarified that Christine does not have a contract with them stating the management is not an issue.
A few minutes ago, Christine posted a status on her official FB page sharing that being born deaf is not the end of the world but a challenge and an opportunity to achieve your dreams, set an example, and contribute to society in a meaningful way. She also added that such disability is not an excuse to give up or make mistakes but to inspire other handicapped people to strive harder and always move forward no matter what.
Along with her encouraging words, she later on expressed how depressed she is for the decision of BPCI to make her resign.
Christine’s supporters were disappointed asking explanation for the real reason of her disqualification.
“If BPCI are having difficulties with her disability why made her an official candidate? Then disqualified her?”
Shall they say that she was not disqualified for her disability, but because of her modeling contract or rumored images, the big question is — “why made her an official candidate for this year’s Bb. Pilipinas 2015?”
Others also expressed their dismay stating that they do not get the idea and the difference between a candidate who can’t speak in English vs. someone who can’t literally speak, noting that both of them would only need an interpreter.
With all these news coming out, we are awaiting for BPCI’s official press statement regarding this matter. We will keep you posted.
