It’s one thing to win in a lottery; it’s another when you felt deceived expecting you’ve won.
This is true for John Wines, a resident of Roswell, New Mexico who found out he won a hefty $500,000 upon scraping off the silver part of the card he bought at a petrol station last month.
However, when he went back to the counter to claim his prize, the clerk told the shocked man that he was NOT a winner and New Mexico Lottery officials claimed the ticket was a MISPRINT.
As reported by Cardplayer.com, John emailed the company to which he received a reply saying,
We did find a flaw in that particular pack of tickets and it’s been reported to our printer. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I did complete a reconstruction of your ticket and it was not a winner.
According to the company, the maximum payout is $250,000, stressing that the mistake voids the ticket.
To pay for the damages it cost the man, he was given $100 worth of scratch cards.
John described his experience saying, “If you thought you won $500,000 and somebody tells you that you didn’t, and you can prove to them you did, it’s pretty stressful for somebody to say, ‘no you’re not getting your money’. It’s like I told them, I didn’t misprint it. I bought the ticket in good faith thinking if I won I was going to get my money. And they told me no, they absolutely, positively told me no.”
