Senator Vicente Sotto III is totally in shock and cannot believe that Pope Francis said people should not breed like rabbits to be called as good Catholics.
Sotto doubts, however, that Pope Francis made his statement clear about it.
During Pontiff’s conference before he moved to Rome, the head of the church was reported to have told reporters, “Some people think that – excuse my expression here – that in order to be good Catholics we have to be like rabbits … No. Parenthood is about being responsible. This is clear.”
Sotto reiterates that somebody made the transcript but for sure it wasn’t Pope. “It’s out of character for him to say that. It can only be said by someone who disliked what the Pope said,” Sotto told reporters.
“I can believe that the Pope would talk about responsible parenthood but for the Pope to say we should stop breeding like rabbits, that’s an invention because that statement I heard already during the RH (reproductive health) debate,” he said reported by Inquirer.net.
Pontiff’s advocacy has been widely reported around international and local media, Sotto’s face hardened with suspicion and said, “Nasaan ang (where’s the) soundbite? Nasaan ang video?”
Known for supporting anti-reproductive health back before it was being proposed as a resolution, Sotto admits he’s an ally with Pope’s belief towards responsible parenthood- except on breeding like rabbits.
During his well-attended visit to the Philippines, Pope stresses the Church is against artificial contraception.
