Despite the convenience and high-technology smartphones like the Apple iPhone and Androids offer, a certain group of people is switching to a Nokia phone launched 16 years ago, the Nokia 8210.
According to a report by Vice News, several drug dealers and addicts are ditching their smartphones for the old pocket-sized Nokia phone since it’s less easy to track them in those devices.
Furthermore, one of their sources told them that the vintage phone has long battery life and has an infrared port which allows quick transfer of information without swapping out sim cards.
“The feds can now use wifi and Bluetooth to get information from the phone, and seem to be able to listen to phones a lot easier now than ever before. Every dealer I know uses old phones, and the Nokia 8210 is the one everyone wants because of how small it is and how long the battery lasts. And it was the best phone when it came out. I couldn’t afford one in Jamaica back in the day, but now I’ve got four,” one of their sources told them.
One drug addict from Birmingham revealed that the 8210 model can be easily swapped for drugs. In fact, two dealers wanted to purchase his vintage phone, but the third dealer got the deal. He was given crack amounting to $50 in exchange for the Nokia phone.
In case you’re wondering how much this phone is, it is being sold for £30 or about P2,000, not very cheap for an extremely outdated phone.
