Talk about winter in the United States of America – for all we know, it is very chilly. Especially in New York, where a social experiment can be perfectly executed.
In this viral video uploaded on Youtube, the OckTV made a boy act as a “freezing homeless child” on a certain sidewalk in New York City. To prep up the experiment to reality, the boy only wears a t-shirt, jeans, and socks, and he completely depends on a plastic garbage bag for some cover from the chilling winds.
In the video, the child actor placed himself where a lot of people pass by, and his location happen to be only a feet away from a ‘real’ homeless guy. Here, we may have thought that the team doing the experiment may have brought the attention to the real homeless man rather than creating a scenario with the boy. Moreover, the struggles could have been for real.
As the video unfolds, we then see that nobody actually tried to talk or even give some money to the boy. What is more surprising here is that after about two hours, the real homeless guy stood up and approached his ‘fellow’ homeless man, giving him his jacket and some money to eat.
(Aww, it breaks my heart)
Consequently, the team, obviously moved with the real homeless man’s actions, approached the guy and thanked him for being the real hero in the scenario.
To us, what could this video mean if we saw our “freezing homeless child” with an obvious need by the street? I do not know. But I guess it is our choice, and not our money, that would decide if we can actually lend a helping hand, or not.
