“Sometimes the dreams that come true are the dreams you never even knew you had.” – Alice Sebold
Everybody dreams. Everybody has wishes. Some people chase after them. Some people, however, for some reason, are destined to fulfill them just because they are at the right place, at the right time. Some people call that destiny. Our inspiring story is about the beginnings of a The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 finalist, OPM advocate and barrio lad, Rence Rapanot.
Was it just a coincidence or is it his destiny? Serendipity perhaps?
Last February 8, 2015, Rence posted a photo of a makeshift coin bank out of a plastic soft drink bottle beside two plastics of 5 peso-coins together with a caption that tells about how he “accidentally auditioned” for The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 (TVOP 2), a reality singing competition in ABS-CBN which features the biggest names in the music industry like Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, apl.de.ap and Bamboo Mañalac as judges.
In the photo’s caption, Rence talked about spending his 852 pesos worth savings to visit his brother in Quezon City. The next day after his arrival in the city, he asked his brother to tour him around and have a picture taken at the Pinoy Big Brother House. He then saw thousands of people waiting in line for what he thought was just a line for an audience of a show. Intrigued, he asked one of the many people waiting and later found out that it was the queue for people auditioning for The Voice of the Philippines Season 2.
Being a band vocalist and a musician for the Catholic Church and a singer of Filipino songs, I thought of standing in line and that was the start of a very beautiful and a very happy experience of my life. I was able to know myself more and grew my inspiration to sing and make music.
Is Rence destined to be the next TVOP grand winner?
True to what Rence mentioned in his Facebook page, he sang a heartfelt rendition of Eraserhead’s “Para sa Masa” which put him to the top spot garnering 50.78% from public votes guaranteeing a spot for him with Camp Kawayan during the February 8 live show.
So, will he become the next Voice of the Philippines? It’s a wee bit early to tell. Let’s just wait and see. For now, here is Rence Rapanot’s heartfelt rendition of “Para sa Masa”.
