If you want softer, younger-looking skin and willing to shell out anywhere from $30 (Php1,300) to $200 (Php8,800), then you should try the new beauty spa craze taking Thailand by storm: the SNAIL SPA!
Yep! We are talking here about snails – the same ones you see in the garden but pampered in sterile conditions and eating only organic lettuce, cabbage, and carrots.
I am not so sure whether I should feel amazed at this new spa treatment or whether I should laugh at those who are willing to shell out that amount of money just to snails walk on their face for 45 minutes. Ugggh!
According to the Daily Mail UK feature, the Snail Spa is gaining traction in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The spa is actually new, opening only last year. The snails were a stroke of genius from two Frenchmen who brought along 100 snails from their hometown. The small colony soon grew to over 30,000 snails whose primary work is to make their slimy walk on people’s faces on a daily basis.
Of course, with a colony this large, the snails do not have to go to work daily – perhaps that should give you some peace of mind, knowing the snails would have a longer rest period in between customers.
Luc Champeyroux, one of the two owners of the spa, proudly said the facility is taking care of the snails like they are their babies. However, he also confessed to enjoying escargot [a French dish made of snails!] but he never eats his own snail babies. LOL.
Would you be willing to try the snail facials? The spa attendants will place 6 snails on your face. These creatures will do their magic on your skin for 45 minutes – and it will only set you back $30 (Php1,300) at Chiang Mai’s Snail Spa but could cost you as much as $200 (Php8,800) at Ci:z.Labo in Tokyo, Japan!
