Manila, Philippines- President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III was attacked with vicious comments because of his non-appearance during the honor arrival of Special Action Force commandos killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last Friday.
Last Tuesday, The President was no-show in the annual awarding ceremonies of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM). Instead, he sent Secretary Almendras to give the awards.
Malacañang emphasizes that this should not be used to defame the President.
On Thursday, the president welcomed the forerunners of Memorare-Manila 1945 Foundation Inc.
He received two survivors of the so-called Manila Massacre during World War II, namely, Roderick McMiking Hall and Consuelo McMiking Hall.
The McMicking Hall siblings are the only survivors after their relatives were killed during Japanese Occupation, according to Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Undersecretary Manuel Luis Quezon III.
According to report, the meeting was just for photo opportunities.
In the president’s broadcast address to the nation on February 6, he takes responsibility over fate of fallen 44.
“Ako ang Ama ng Bayan, at 44 sa aking mga anak ang nasawi. Hindi na sila maibabalik; nangyari ang trahedya sa ilalim ng aking panunungkulan; dadalhin ko po hanggang sa huling mga araw ko ang pangyayaring ito. Responsibilidad ko po sila, kasama ang buong puwersa ng SAF sa operasyong ito, pati na ang mga nagligtas sa kanila na nalagay din sa panganib ang buhay.”
At the end of his speech Aquino calls on nation to fight for peace.
“Manatili sana tayong nakatutok sa ating pangunahing layunin: Ang malawakan at pangmatagalang kapayapaan. Ito ang ipinaglaban ng Special Action Force sa Mamasapano. Ito ang patuloy na ipinaglalaban ng bawat disenteng Pilipinong gustong mag-iwan ng mas magandang kinabukasan para sa mga susunod na henerasyon. Sa pamamagitan ng pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan, matatamo natin ang katarungan, masusuklian natin ang sakripisyo ng ating kapulisan, at matutupad natin ang ating kolektibong mga pangarap.”
