In this generation of the social media and the internet taking most of our free time, TV shows are still dominating the entertainment scene specially for a developing country like the Philippines where there are still a lot of people who do not have internet access at home.
Specially for the older generation, TV is still their entertainment staple. There have been a lot of shows that have come and gone for different reasons. Some were expected to be taken off the air while the others were surprisingly canceled even though they were top rating. Let’s take a look back at some of our favorite Philippine TV shows that were laid to rest.
Here’s our first list of shows that were canceled on Philippine television.
1. SOP
SOP or Sobrang Okay Pare was GMA 7’s attempt to at least match the show that overthrew GMA Supershow, ASAP (A Sunday Afternoon Party). Alas! Even with its reformatting, it still failed to beat ASAP. Its last episode was aired on February 28, 2010 after 13 years of airing on TV.
2. Click
The youth oriented show on GMA 7 that replaced the legendary T.G.I.S, Click was cancelled after 5 years because GMA failed to revive the show after the absence of Valerie Concepcion due to her pregnancy.
3. The Buzz
The Buzz, one of the longest running talk shows on Philippine TV just recently said goodbye last April 5, 2015. Boy Abunda said during their final episode, “The world has changed. We need to take a few steps backward to check where we are right now.” It was actually a smart move for the show after 16 years of being on air. We just wonder which show will replace “The Buzz”.
