Mary Jane Veloso delayed from execution

INDONESIA- Filipina worker Mary Jane Veloso was spared after a woman who allegedly recruited her to act as a drug courier gave herself up to police in the Philippines on Tuesday.

Recalling last week, Veloso’s lawyers filed a complaint against another Filipina Kristina Sergio, who they allege promised to the death-row inmate a job as a domestic worker in Indonesia but instead led her to become a drug mule.

On Tuesday, Sergio reportedly surrendered to Philippine police custody earlier to protect herself against life threats she has been receiving from mobile phones and social media accounts.

Maria Kristina Sergio surrendered at the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office at 10:30 a.m., saying she fears for her life.

Sentenced to death Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso turns left at Penitentiary Iron, reclaiming and not brought to the Dead End Shooting Limus to be executed. According to sources at the execution site, Mary’s execution was cancelled because her alleged recruiter voluntarily surrendered to PNP custody.

Indonesia government is looking seriously upon the last-ditch appeal of President Aquino to make her a vital witness to identify drug mule syndicates.

“She does present an opportunity right now to be able to uncover all the participants and start the process of bringing them to the bars of justice,” Aquino told reporters in Malaysia, where he was attending a meeting of Southeast Asian leaders.

Indonesian Attorney General M. Prasetyo was quoted as saying, “Yes, delayed because there was a last-minute plea from the Philippine President. There was someone who surrendered today. She claimed she was the one who recruited Mary Jane.”

“We’ve carried out the executions,” said an Attorney General’s Office (AGO) official, talking to the press on condition of anonymity.

The eight were Indonesian Zainal Abidin, Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte, Nigerians Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise, Raheem Agbaje Salami and Okwudili Oyatanze, Ghanaian Martin Anderson.

Mary Jane’s mother Celia Veloso on her daughter’s execution being delayed, “Ayun na nga yung sinasabi ng anak ko, na kahit gahibla na lang na oras ang natitira, kung gusto ng Panginoon na mabuhay ako, bubuhayin pa niya ako.”

(That’s what my daughter has been saying: That no matter how little time is left, if God wants me to live, he will keep me alive.)

This is a developing story.
