Mermaids: one of the most famous mythical sea creatures, not only in the Philippines but around the world. Many movies and TV series were inspired by these long haired, singing mermaids. Although there have been a lot of reported videos and sightings all over the world, there have not been any of them in the Philippines. But are they really true? If they are, they seem to be avoiding people for a reason or two.
A video of a mermaid sighting in General Santos City has been making rounds on social media. The video which shows a mermaid-like figure swimming in the waves of a beach in General Santos City was caught on video by tourists from Iloilo. Its tail really looks like the mermaid’s tail that we see in movies. It had golden like fins, and the size: as big as a human.
In the 47-second video, the creature which people think is a mermaid was seen swimming near a motorized boat with many passengers. It wasn’t very clear at the start of the the video, but at the later part, its tail emerged and it really seemed like a mermaid.
However, when it was posted and shared in social media, a lot people say it was just a “dugong” or sea cow.
Take a look at the raw video here and see for yourself if this would be the first mermaid sighting in the Philippines caught on video.
