Silent Hills is the upcoming version of the Silent Hill survival horror series which is popular for its psychological guilt monsters, scary impractical head wears and lots of spooky fog. Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic Silent Hills project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued. In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.
Silent Hills, at least as it was originally conceived, is cancelled. The next chapter of the once-popular horror series had built considerable hype off the back of a fantastic playable teaser, P.T., which was released last summer. When solved the teaser offered up a trailer for a new Silent Hill game, revealing that Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus were all on board.
The setting of Silent Hills is evident to be based in multiple parallel universes or overlapping realities, switching between the real world and the other rust covered, nightmarish worlds.
The prevailing theory is that in this version of the game, there is more than one silent hill; hence the name given to this version is Silent Hill(s), in plural and also on other assumptions based on hints from suggestive trailers.
In this story, everyone creates their own silent hill as an escape to a land of self-purgatory. The storyline in this revolves around the killing of an unfortunate family, which is reason enough to be sent to their silent hill guilt dimension.
There are some speculations that Silent Hills was cancelled because Kojima is in the midst of an extremely messy breakup with long-term publisher Konami. The rift between Kojima Productions and Konami will apparently lead to the designer exiting the company after the completion of Metal Gear Solid 5.
Amid mounting speculation that the Silent Hills project may have been cancelled, Konami has issued a statement that suggests the game is, at the very least, undergoing major changes.
When the Silent Hills project was first announced, Walking Dead star Norman Reedus was named as its lead actor, lending both his face and voice to the game.
But last Monday, Konami confirmed that the contract period with Reedus has expired, following the actor’s claims on Twitter that the entire project has been axed.
Konami wouldn’t discuss the Silent Hills project specifically, but said: We will continue to develop the Silent Hill series.
Konami’s most renowned developer and a director on the project is preparing to leave the company once work on Metal Gear Solid 5 is completed. Director Guillermo del Toro, who was initially signed as a co-director of Silent Hills, was reported to have said on Sunday that his collaboration with Konami “is not gonna happen.”
Despite the temporary lost of Silent Hills due to some issues, some other games which have similar game play include Arkham Asylum’s game crashes in the Scarecrow segment and the memory card wipe out trick used in Eternal Darkness. More interesting than Silent Hills.
