Youtube has almost replaced other forms of entertainment since it was created in 2005. It has made stars out of ordinary people whose videos have gone viral. Currently, there are a lot of channels dedicated to Filipinos. Some channels feature foreigners that showcase the Filipino culture. There are foreigners who sing in Tagalog, Fil-Ams that teach about the Filipino culture and hundreds more that show the funny and interesting side of our country. However, there hasn’t been any popular foreign YouTube channels that feature the less popular dialect of Filipinos: the Visayan language.
That’s what the “Hey Joe Show” does. They introduce the Filipino culture through their Youtube channel with the Visayan or Cebuano language as their medium. Composed of five young American guys from Utah: Sumner, Connor, Davis, Tylan and Jake, the channel “Hey Joe Show” is now becoming viral on social media with over 34,000 subscribers. The group who were humanitarian missionaries in the Philippines from 2012 to 2014 are actually very fluent in the Visayan dialect. They create funny videos by teaching Bisaya to Americans and even make Visayan covers of popular songs. Their first video that was launched in October 2014 now has over 800,000 views. Their popularity has taken over the Philippines and the group will be going on a tour from April 25 to May 4, 2015 in the key cities of the south: Dumaguete, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Tagbilaran.
