After a string of controversies, TV Patrol news anchor Korina Sanchez has not been seen on TV Patrol for the past few months. Although she has filed a three-month leave of absence, the public has been speculating on the real reason why Korina has been missing in the program for quite a while now.
But what really is the truth about Korina’s leaving the program? Is it temporary or is it a gentle blow of a probable permanent leave from the program? Was she sacked or is it just a suspension?
In November 2014, Korina filed a three-month leave of absence to pursue her master’s degree in Journalism from the Ateneo de Manila University. The said leave is supposed to be from January to March of 2015. As of writing, Korina is still missing in action from the program. Is she still not done yet with her school requirements or is there a falling out between her and ABS-CBN?
Of course, the public can still not forget when Korina had an issue with CNN’s Anderson Cooper in 2013. After she made a remark from her news program that Cooper does not know what he was talking about, she was advised by the latter to visit Tacloban. Back then, Korina was rumored to be suspended from the program, although her camp stated that she was just on leave.
Fast forward to 2014: Korina made an insensitive remark about the typhoon Ruby stating that she wishes the typhoon to head directly to Japan. This ired a lot of netizens and even inspired a hoax story of Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declaring Korina as persona non-grata.

Well, this is the case, Korina filed a leave of absence in November 2014. She stated her insensitive remark about Japan and typhoon Ruby on air last December 3, 2014. Going through the dates, we would like to safely assume that she was not suspended because of that incident. However, there have been stories circulating on the internet about her absence.
According to Fashion Pulis, Korina was asked by the management to leave TV Patrol. This is because of the blunders she has committed which started when she had an issue with Cooper. Now, here is what a source from ABS-CBN says about her “temporarily” leaving the show: Korina gave three conditions before she would actually leave. First: that the suspension will be scheduled during her study leave, second: she will still be included in the opening billboard of the program, and lastly, that her shoes can be filled by any ABS-CBN news personality except Karen Davila. Sound conditions you might say, but Korina’s camp hasn’t really clarified anything.
When will we see her on TV Patrol? If we base it on her leave, well, she is supposed to have been back as of writing. But is there any issue between her and the station? Is she being gently pushed off the news program? Or is it just a temporary indefinite leave? Well, that is for us to find out. As of now, people are waiting until they see the one and only Korina Sanchez back on TV Patrol.
