A young girl was shot dead by her father in Tangtangan, South Cotabato Philippines, after being mistaken for an “aswang”.
According to GMA News and Public Affairs, the uncle of the 16-year-old girl said she had gone to a dance party the night before and got home in the wee hours.
Possibly fearing being scolded by her parents for going home late, the teenager tried to get inside the house through the roof instead of the door. Her father heard someone on the roof and asked who it was. Since nobody answered, he fired a warning shot and accidentally hit his daughter in the chest.
The victim did not make it to the hospital alive.
Rumors about an “aswang” roaming the area had been going around the community, fueling people’s fears. Authorities say they will not file a case against the father of the victim.
