The landing of Velosos family in Manila on Friday, instead of welcoming gratitude, fly in the face of the government by outpouring its grudging consent against the Aquino’s administration.
Mary Jane’s mother, Celia, attended the press conference following their arrival from Indonesia.
Older Veloso fully expressed her gratitude for all the supporters, most especially to the Migrante International.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa inyo, nang dahil sa inyo ay nakilala kami nila Ma’am Connie [Regalado, Migrante International chairperson],” she said.
In her second line of talk, Mary Jane’s mother is pitifully declaring her daughter’s case was abondoned for a long time.”Matagal na panahon na natulog ang kaso ng anak ko. Nagpapasalamat kami sa mga pari, teacher, kabataan na sumusuporta sa anak ko at sa mga nasa ibang bansa. Kung hindi sa inyong tulong ay hindi ko alam at baka nawalan na ako ng bunso,” she said.
Older Veloso then blew up the government is owing her a great deal.”Ngayon ay nandito na kami sa Pilipinas ay marami kaming sisingilin sa gobyerno. Sabi nila sa kanila nanggaling kung bakit hindi natuloy ang bitay ng anak ko, hindi totoo ‘yon.”
She addressed a statement to President Benigno Aquino III:”Hanggang sa ngayon, niloko pa rin kami. Akala namin, siya ang gumawa ng paraan para mailigtas ang anak ko.”
Also, Celia is accusing the Department of Foreign Affairs of blocking them in attending interviews with Indonesian media while waiting for her daughter’s fate.
“Isa pa ‘yung DFA, para kaming itinatago. Hirap na hirap po kami. Gusto naming magpa-media, hindi kami ma-media. Gusto naming magpasalamat sa presidente ng Indonesia.”
Relating to what Older Veloso said, Migrante International spoke hardly against the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, particularly Consul General Roberto Manalo citing that he deserves to leave his position for his unright treatment to the family.
“Kung ganiyan po ang opisyal ng isang embahada, kahit po isang segundo, hindi po siya karapat-dapat diyan, sa ginawa niya sa pamilya Veloso. Dapat alisin ‘yan sa pwesto. Katulad ng hamon namin, dapat may gumulong ang ulo sa pagpapabaya sa kaso ni Mary Jane,” said Migrante International chairperson Garry Martinez.
Aquino speaks up
READ: Mary Jane Veloso delayed from execution
Afer the Labor Day rites, Aquino said that they did anything they could to spare Veloso from execution.
“We did what we could. We were not involved in the creation of the problem. You must remember she was arrested, if I am not mistaken, April of 2010,” the President told reporters after Labor Day rites.
“What more can the government do? From the counsel that were provided, from the intercessions done through with President Widodo, with foreign ministers, through the Attorney General…. Iyong, di ba, bringing the entire family there also,” Aquino added.
President Aquino declined to give a comment on the fierce statement Mary Jane’s mother blurted out as he firstly wants to know her full context of remarks.
Execution postponed
READ: Veloso’s reprieve grants her to testify, now back in jail
On Wednesday, Attorney General’s Office (AGO) confirmed Mary Jane’s execution was delayed, Jakarta post reported.
“The execution of Mary Jane has been postponed due to the request of the Philippines President [Benigno Aquino III] in relation to an alleged human trafficker who recently gave herself up in the Philippines,” AGO spokesman Tony Spontana told reporters.
Spontana said that the Aquino adminstration told them that Mary Jane is needed to testify as a witness since her alleged recruiter Maria Kristina Sergio, voluntarily surrendered to PNP custody.
However, one of Veloso’s laywer claimed that Anis Hidayah, Migrant Care’s executive director, helped to put the execution on hold.
According to media reports, Hidayah attended a cabinet meeting, prior to scheduled execution, where she spoke with Indonesian President Widodo and said that, “Mary Jane is a victim of human trafficking and the recruiter, Christina, surrendered to Philippine authorities.”
“So it’s become a new novum for her, for [it’s] better to delay the execution until the legal process in [the] Philippines [is] finished,” she added.
Netizens maddened on Mary Jane’s mother sentiments
Netizens were deeply saddened upon hearing the remarks made by Celia Veloso against the government.
Most of them speak of sympathy the time Mary Jane’s execution is set to proceed but now it has been postponed, Veloso family, according to them, should atleast be grateful for all the efforts the government had shown, including Aquino’s breaking the protocol of Indonesia when he phoned Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
