China has put up a neck-turning panda statue that can be easily seen because of its huge plated body.
Created by Bi Heng, who graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, the monstrous iron panda stands 9 meters tall and extends 7 meters wide- inviting passersby to take selfie with it.
Aside from its noticeable rough edges and compact body, an interesting symbolism lies on its appearance. The armored panda portrays mankind’s struggle in preserving environment while the iron-covering symbolizes human pursuit towards technology advancement.
“It’s a symbol of high technology overriding natural hegemonic in western countries,” Heng said.
This humongous sculpture conveys Heng’s belief that innovative technology and nature should get along, not overrule one another.
Meanwhile, Heng incorporates variants of small “Iron Panda” and were featured at the K11 art mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, Honkong. The piece is part of the ‘Art Nova 100’, an annual art exhibition, which was participated by 100 emerging Asian artists.
