From traditional camping to the glamping to recreational vehicles, camping and travelling will be never be the same again once the Ecocapsule is formally released in the market in 2016. Tagged as the “dwelling with the spirit of freedom”, the Ecocapsule is an efficient spatial layout with the convenience of household facilities in off-grid conditions.
Designed by Slovakian firm Nice Architect, the compact Ecocapsule is big enough to house two adults and features a built-in kitchenette with running water, flushing toilet, and hot shower—luxuries of a hotel room that are now also available in wilderness. The capsule is powered by solar, water, and wind harvesting capabilities.
The capsule shape was specially designed to capture rain and morning dew. It has a membrane which can filter water and make it 99.99% free from bacteria, thus making it suitable for drinking. The walls has high-performance thermal insulation which helps reduce energy consumption.
Nice Architects proudly boasts, “The key to a successful survival strategy is strict management of energy resources. Conventional houses can afford to lose several watts per hour, but for Ecocapsule this difference [is] crucial. Long term independence is mostly matter of strategy – how to harness and reuse every kind of energy available. All these small tricks together are creating a system able to sustain itself without other resources for long periods of time.”
The company also promotes the Ecocapsule not only as a very efficient replacement for tents, but also a cottage, pop-up hotel, or even as a charging station for electric cars.
Pre-ordering of the capsules are available until the end of the year and the first batch will be released early 2016.
