Boxing fans file lawsuit against Pacquiao over Injury

Without a doubt, Manny Pacquiao supporters, who bought flight tickets; registered for pay-per-view; or placed bets on him, were disappointed about Pacman allegedly concealing a shoulder injury before the fight against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Some fans are apparently disappointed enough to file a case against the People’s Champ.

ESPN reported that two Las Vegas boxing fans filed a class-action lawsuit against the Pinoy boxer, his manager Michael Koncz, and his promoters seeking five million dollars.

“Defendants prior to and at the time the plaintiffs and the class decided to purchase tickets; purchase pay per view showings or wagered on the event the defendants knew and had full knowledge and information that defendant Pacquiao had been seriously injured and was suffering from a torn rotator cuff,” the lawsuit stated.

The suit alleges that Pacquiao and company failed to inform the Nevada Athletic Commission about an injury that could affect the outcome of the match.

“Defendants further know that such injury would severely affect his performance.”

Top Rank’s lawyer Daniel Petrocelli belied the accusation by saying, “the allegations in this lawsuit are demonstrably false. There are documents that explicitly show the medications that Manny was using to treat his shoulder and it was fully disclosed with USADA, which we contracted for this fight.”

Pacquiao had reinjured himself during the bout, he added.

‘This is a frivolous lawsuit and we are confident it will be dismissed,’ he added.

During an interview after the fight, Manny admitted that three weeks before the match, he had  suffered injuries during training. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum said the injuries “have sufficiently healed”, but handlers had unsuccessfully sought treatment for the shoulder in the dressing room before the match.

News about class-action filing came after Nevada Athletic Chairman Francisco Aguilar questioned why Manny checked “no” on a form asking if he had an injury one day before the fight.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache said that Pacquiao will undergo surgery and will need to recover for about nine months.

Meanwhile, Mayweather said in a text to ESPN said he’ll accept a rematch with Pacquiao.

“I will fight him in a year after his surgery,” the text read.
