The cliche “A dog is man’s best friend” has been around for the longest time, yet time and time again, this saying holds true.
Rommel Quemenales, 11, lives around the GMA network complex on Timog Avenue, Quezon City. Unlike most homeless children roaming the area, Rommel stood out for netizen Gen Pilar who, in her post, shared a photo of Rommel sleeping on the sidewalk with his dog Badgi lying on his chest.
Badgi was a stray Rommel found wandering around about a month ago. The loyal dog proved itself to be a good companion and friend. Rommel is proud to say his dog is very smart and eager to learn tricks. He shares, “Sobrang bait po ni Badgi. Tulog lang siya nang tulog. Tinuturuan ko na rin siya ng tricks ngayon.” [Badgi is such a nice dog. He sleeps a lot. I’m teaching him to do tricks now.]
Gen interviewed the boy (watch video here) and found out that the boy’s parents separated when he was younger. Rommel has an older sister living in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, whom he visits whenever he has money. On her Facebook post, Gen quotes Rommel: “Namamalimos po ako kasi gusto ko pong maka-ipon. Gusto ko pa pong mag-aral. Para rin po matulungan ko ang aking kapatid.” [I beg for alms because I want to save money. I still want to study. And I want to help my sister.]
