The family of Jennifer Dalquez is now appealing to the government for help after she was sentenced to death in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after being convicted of killing her employer.
On December 12, the 28-year-old OFW from General Santos was incarcerated after she killed her employer who tried to rape her on December 7. Dubai’s Al Ain trial court released its decision on May 20.
Dalquez stabbed and killed her employer using the same knife he used to threaten her.
According to her mother Rajima, Dalquez has been working in the foreign country since 2011. She was supposed to come back to the Philippines last January.
In a text message sent to GMA News Online, the Department of Foreign Affairs said they will be assisting Dalquez in pleading her sentence.
“The Embassy has extended all necessary assistance, including hiring a lawyer,” the DFA said in a text message.
About 88 Filipinos are facing death penalty in several countries, as reported by the DFA. This includes Mary Jane Veloso, the Filipina convicted for drug charges, but was given a last minute reprieve by the government of Indonesia.
