After Sikh man removed his turban to aid an injured boy, his good deed gets a surprising reward from friendly strangers to return the favor quickly.
Harman Singh, 22, was inside his home in Auckland when he heard car wheels screeching. He went outside and found out that an injured boy had been hit by a vehicle on his way to school.
“I saw a child down on the ground and a lady was holding him. His head was bleeding, so I unveiled my turban and put it under his head,” Singh told The New Zealand Herald. “I wasn’t thinking about the turban. I was thinking about the accident and I just thought, ‘He needs something on his head because he’s bleeding.’ That’s my job — to help. And I think anyone else would have done the same as me.”
Singh and residents stayed with the boy until the emergency service arrived. Not long after the accident, the boy’s mother came in.
The 5-year old Daejon Pahia was walking to school with his older sister when he was hit.
Singh visited Daejon, who is now recovering at the Starship Children’s hospital.
Wearing turban is a religious protocol of Sikh religion that can normally only be removed at home for purposes of bathing and hairwashing, according to the Sikh Coalition.

As television news rolled into the house of Singh for interview, the world saw a view of the man’s accommodation– which seemed empty and lacked of furniture.
Spurred by comments from viewers, GoodNews Network contacted a local furniture store owner and together surprised Singh with amazing rewards–new bed, sofa, chair and coffee table.
“This the biggest surprise of my life,“teary-eyed Singh said, whose father died last year.
He said he knew his father would be proud of him, too.
We couldn’t be prouder of you. Truly, someone who does good deeds gets a huge one in return.
