Barbara Filokostas, a Melbourne-based naturopath and herbalist and founder of Botani, reveals to FEMAIL ten simple life hacks to extend 10 years to our life. You’ll be surprised that it’s a pretty easy to-do list.
1. Get some quality sleep
Don’t compromise getting a good sleep. Sleep deprivation has been associated with memory problems, hearing problems, hypertension, stroke, depression, and obesity according to Filokostas.
Using a natural pillow would also increase the quality of sleep while silk pillows help regulate moisture in your skin.
2. Don’t stress over the small stuff
There are a lot of reasons to be stressed, but there is no need to always get stressed. Filokostas says, “Just remember no amount of stress will change the outcome and then let it go.”

3. Consume less coffee
A study by the University of Gothenberg revealed that limiting your coffee intake to four cups a day is a factor that influence survival past the age of 50.
4. Smile
Smiling is a great way to brighten our day. As simple as it may be, smiling at someone can change someone’s day and you can also get good vibes out of it.
5. Stop thinking life is hard
Be positive and see how your life will improve.
6. Sit less, stand more
According to Filokostas, a study revealed that for each hour people spend sitting down after the age of 25, 22 minutes are deducted from overall life expectancy. So try to stand up more.
7. Remove your makeup before you sleep
“Leaving your makeup on at night prevents your skin from being able to breathe and will stop its natural restorative process”, says Filokostas.
8. Exercise
Extend your life span by exercising. Filokostas revealed a study which found that people who are over 45 kilograms can subtract a whole decade from their life span, and people who do vigorous exercise regularly were 13 per cent less likely to die prematurely.
9. Put on sunscreen
Using sunscreen can actually not just add ten, but 20 years to your life. A study said those people who died of melanoma could have extended their lives for two decades had they put on enough sunscreen.
10. Say goodbye to toxic people
Spend time with people who inspire you and energize you. Being with people who do not nourish your soul is not worth it.
