Balitang America recently reported a case where the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is suing the oil service company American Casing and Equipment for discriminating against a Filipino worker in Williston, North Dakota.
American Casing and Equipment allegedly fired harassed Pinoy worker Matthew Clark in retaliation for his complaints about the discrimination. Clark was apparently harassed by his Caucasian manager who called Clark racial slurs like “sp_c,” “monkey,” and the “N” word while jabbing his finger into Clark’s stomach and chest. Sp_c is a highly offensive term referring in a derogatory manner to a Hispanic person while the “N” word is a contemptuous term for a black or dark-skinned person which even Americans themselves do not use on their fellow Americans.
Clark also claims that the manager urinated on his legs while he was working under a truck sometime in July 2013.
The EEOC fully supports employees who have been discriminated against at work because of their race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability, or genetic information. The laws apply to all types of work situations, including hiring, firing, promotions, harassment, training, wages, and benefits.
In this case, Clark is seeking back pay, as well as compensation for future losses resulting from unlawful employment practices.
