Remember the cute young Anakin Skywalker who captured our hearts in 1999’s hit movie Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace? Well, he’s all grown up now and is once again hitting the headlines not because of a new movie, but because of a criminal offense he got into recently.
Jake Lloyd was arrested after his crazy car chase with the South Carolina deputies last Wednesday. According to TMZ, the 26-year-old former child actor was overspeeding in Charleston, South Carolina, recklessly driving and passing cars on the double yellow line.
The Sheriff’s deputies initially tried to stop him, but he ran away leading to a car chase that lasted for more than 25 miles.
Running at over 100 miles per hour, Lloyd eventually lost control of his vehicle and ran through a fence before crashing into several trees.
Sergeant Kyle Strickland said the driver identified himself as Jake Broadbent but they later on confirmed he was Lloyd through a former talent agent. His birthdate and birthplace also matched his info on IMDB.com’s movie database.
Charged with failing to stop for officers and reckless driving after hitting speeds of more than 100 miles an hour, Lloyd is currently in custody and has not yet posted bail.
Jake Lloyd also starred in a number of movies in the late ’90s. Some of those were:
