How’s this for unique parenting? Japanese Twitter user @coyo54A shared a story of his superior, a Japanese dad who had much difficulty in getting his son to quit video games and wanting to make him interested in other activities such as sports. The father instilled the lesson, “Too much of anything is bad for you” when he made his video game-addicted son play Pokémon all the time. The man told the boy that there were no limits on how long he could play, but had the condition that he must catch one Pokémon every day and he must report everyday on his progress.
It must have seemed like a dream-turned-into-nightmare for the boy, especially when his father would spot him playing something else and yell, “Why aren’t you playing Pokémon?!” Eventually, the boy got sick of video games and took up soccer instead. This changed the boy’s after-school activities as he joined the soccer team and quit playing his video games.
Some netizens praised the father for his unique but nonetheless effective way of parenting, while others deemed it too harsh, especially for a child who is only in elementary. The original poster defended the father saying, “This senpai (superior) of mine, he’s a great worker and highly respected. I want to follow his example. And I never, ever plan to disobey him.”
