In social media, we encounter so many moving stories about good samaritans going out of their way to help the needy. These positive stories, which brought back our faith in humanity, have captured the hearts of netizens inspiring them to take action and help others.
Unfortunately, this was not the case for this 59-year-old man when he approached people for help.
In a post made by MC Corpuz on Facebook, it was revealed that Ranny Gomez was forced to walk all the way from Cavite City to Las Piñas after Cavite City public servants allegedly refused to give help.
According to Corpuz, Gomez, a resident of Lucena City, went to visit his sister Mercy Dela Cruz in Cavite City to borrow money. Sadly, Dela Cruz had already moved to another place so Gomez was left without any choice, but to seek help from the officials of Cavite City.
Initially, he sought the help of employees from the Office of the Mayor in Cavite City but they directed Gomez to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Cavite City. However, DSWD officials also refused to help him citing that he is not a resident of Cavite City.
Finally, Gomez opted to get help from Cavite police but to no avail.
Since he didn’t have enough money to commute, Gomez decided to walk from Cavite City to Las Piñas. After two days of walking, Gomez lost consciousness due to extreme heat and hunger. Fortunately, some good samaritans offered to give him much needed help.

The poor old man’s story (which happened last year) is definitely an eye-opener for us that ordinary citizens are even more capable of helping others compared to those in power. Clearly, you don’t need a title nor lots of money in order to understand the situation of the poor man.
We can’t help but wonder if there’s still space for love and compassion in these so-called public servants’ hearts.
