SM uses artist’s doodles in their T-Shirt design without permission

Retail giant SM has figured in several controversies before regarding some of the shirts they sell in their department store. While some of their shirts previously caught attention for inappropriate and sexist statements, this time around they have apparently used an artist’s work without his permission.

In a post by artist Kerby Rosanes, he said that a friend informed him that one of the T-shirts sold in SM stores had Kerby’s design on it. It even had the name of Kerby in the doodle. The shirt was seen in the SM Youth Department as one of their Culture tees in SM Bacoor and SM Manila.

In Kerby’s comment exchange with his friend, he said that nobody from SM contacted him about the design.

In addition, Kerby said in his post that the shirt was a rip-off of his work except for the print “Awesome” on the center of the shirt.

Kerby pleaded with the public to not buy the T-shirt because it will not help artists like him. However, he maintained his sense of humor and joked that his name was at least part of the design.

As of writing, there is no news if SM has already removed the shirts from their shelves or if Kerby has filed any complaint against the retail giant. The Dailypedia is still waiting for Kerby’s response to our message.
