Photos of Baby Chloe, a two-year-old girl suffering esophageal varices secondary to portal hypertension, have spread like wildfire on social media.
In the Facebook page Help Save Baby Chloe, distressing photos of the little girl vomiting large volumes of blood were posted. Concerned netizens shared the images in order to help Baby Chloe’s family get blood donations and financial assistance.
According to Baby Chloe’s father, Rommel Natalio, help poured in after the photos went viral on Facebook.
Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Natalio said: “Hindi po namin expect na magtetrending. After n’un, dami na tumawag, nagtetext. Talagang natuwa kami. Ngayon, kakatapos lang din ng operation n’ya,”
Currently, Baby Chloe is recovering in the intensive care unit of hospital in Santiago City.
Esophageal varices are abnormal, enlarged veins located at the lower part of the esophagus connecting the throat and stomach caused by portal hypertension. Since the varices are fragile, the can rupture easily leading to excessive amount of blood loss that can be life-threatening. Patients need to seek treatment immediately since bleeding from a varicose is considered a medical emergency.
