A one-year-old toddler’s arm was dragged and got stuck in an escalator at the Sun Square Mall in Wuzhou, Guangxi, China. According to a shop keeper who witnessed the incident, the child tripped and fell while riding the escalator, causing his left arm to be sucked into the machinery.
The child was accompanied by his grandmother. The shopkeeper was quick to point to negligence on the grandmother’s part, which led to the accident.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene. They used hydraulic expansion pliers and crowbars to pry the child loose. A cursory examination at the scene showed the child’s fingers to be blackened and bloody. He may have also suffered a fractured arm. He was immediately rushed off to the Wuzhou Red Cross Hospital.
