Most people have a hard time losing weight, but a new study says that falling in love could actually help you shed pounds.
The oxytocin hormone a.k.a. the “love hormone” is what your body releases when you are in love and it may in fact help control your appetite.
For those who are not familiar with oxytocin, this very powerful hormone is secreted by the brain during pleasurable activities and its levels go up when we cuddle, kiss, and have sex with a loved one.
The researchers at Harvard Medical School conducted a test involving two groups of overweight and obese young men ranging from 12 to 13 years old. The first group was given an oxytocin nasal spray while the other set received a placebo.
According to an online medical journal, the men who used oxytocin were more likely to eat less food, i.e., an average of 122 less calories + 9 less grams fat. In addition, their metabolic levels increased and their insulin sensitivity was heightened.
However, since majority of the said research group consisted of younger men, studies and additional tests would have to be done before reaching a conclusion to this theory.
Still, how nice it is to know that being head over heels in love with someone could help you suppress your appetite, thus making you lose weight and attain the slim physique you’ve always want to have.
