3. The Two-Headed Dog
In 1954, Russian scientist Vladimir Demikhov grafted the head and forelegs of a smaller dog named Shavka onto a bigger dog called Brodyaga. Although the two dogs were able to see and move around independently, the bigger dog would occasionally shake the foreign head off its neck, while the smaller one would retaliate by biting the ear of the larger companion. Both died four days later. Demikhow attempted to replicate his experiment in 24 other subjects. The Russian scientist’s shocking experiment led to the development of new forms of organ transplants.
